Benny Abante Tackles Weeks of Hectic Schedules Across The Country

As the summer season is heating up, so also are the full-packed weeks and months of schedules for Dr. Benny Abante, Jr., all across the country.

Just this past week the Dr. Abante was in the province of Isabela, where he had three straight days of speaking engagements, meetings and appointments from morning all the way until night time. Together with him was his wife, Ms. Marie, and a select number of pastoral staff who accompanied him across the various municipalities of the province.

The three-day trip to Isabela started out initially with the Dr. Abante being the guest speaker for the two-night Cheerful Giving Conference of MBBC Isabela, and the officiating minister for the renewal of vows between Ptr. Jojo Tuason and his wife Teacher Beng, in celebration of their 25^th wedding anniversary. As it later on turned out, the Dr. Abante maximized his stay by setting other various sorties across the province, meeting pastors, youth leaders, politicians and other leaders sympathetic to our moral advocacies and aspirations for the country.

Among the politicians he met was Mayor Jeng Reyes of Alicia, Isabela. Mayor Reyes, who had once worked with the National Youth Commission, warmly welcomed the Dr. Abante and his delegation at the municipal hall, as well as during their face-to-face encounter with the various student government leaders of the state colleges and universities in the municipalities of Alicia and Echague. The Dr. Abante had an opportunity to lay down his advocacies as a moral crusader, as well as answer questions from the student leaders, whose concerns were mostly about the upliftment of the educational system in the country.

The Dr. Abante also had the chance to meet up with Isabela governor Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, who was once a colleague of our senior pastor during the 13^th and 14^th Congress. The governor gave the Dr. Abante a chance to address the farmers of the province that same afternoon, who happened to be at the provincial capitol for a consultative meeting with the governor. It wasn’t before long that several press people caught news of the Dr. Abante’s presence in the capitol at Ilagan, and soon sent their field reporters to interview the Dr. Abante right after his talk.

Thursday afternoon, the Dr. Abante had a heart-to-heart talk with the fellowshipping pastors in Region 2. During the talk, the Dr. Abante organized the regional leaders that will be helping BIBLEMODE Region 2 Coordinator Ptr. Jojo Tuason in ramming up support for the Dr. Abante’s national campaign.

Later that evening, during the climax of the Cheerful Giving Conference, the pastors surrounded the Dr. Abante and prayed for the Lord’s will in his political career. Another highlight also that night was the record-breaking commitment of 2.4 million pesos that was raised by the Dr. Abante among the members of Isabela. The proceeds of the commitments will be used to complete the building program of MBBC Isabela.

Finally, the Dr. Abante had a chance to preach before 350 students of the Isabela State University last Friday, where almost half of the crowd raised their hands when the Dr. Abante asked for those who would like to receive Jesus as their Savior. The students who listened had the chance to shake the Dr. Abante’s hand, and even strike a pose with him.

Dr. Abante is set next to strike off from his long list of appointments his schedules in Cebu and General Santos City. These schedules are aside the ones to be held in church in the next few weeks months.

I have always stood on the side of the law as the Bible would teach us. The impeachment court is within the parameter of the rule of law and therefore must be respected. I’m hoping that we will go beyond politics and let the truth come out. It is now the time for CJ Corona to clear his name and the time for the congressmen-prosecutors to rise above politics and uphold honesty and truth… For the senator-judges to deliberate with objectivity and pass judgment on the basis of sufficient and unquestionable pieces of evidence while the executive branch of our government go about running the affairs of government and providing services to our people.

BIBLEMODE Supports Bill 4002

The BIBLEMODE, of which I am the president, give our support to Rep. Teddy Casino and Neri Colmenares on their House Bill 4002 which aims to provide immediate relief to the poor, especially on the loss of their loved ones. This will also prevent loan sharks and gambling lords from taking advantage of their situation. Such an example is during wakes of our poor kababayans where their loved ones entertain “sakla” and other types of gambling for a cut in the earnings. We believe that gamlbing is a desecration of the dead and a sign of disrespect but because of poverty, they cannot do anything but succumb to such offers. We hope Congress will enact this bill into law. In my district alone, about 30 people die among the poor every week. – Rep. Benny Abante, 6th District – 13th & 14th Congress

All Out War or All Out Justice?

There should be no room for criticism on the government doing their best to contain the violence in Mindanao. Let us allow “all out justice” to work. We have tried “all out war” already, and it’s time to do something different to achieve peace in Mindanao. The BIBLEMODE gives its full support to Pnoy’s initiative both in our prayers and moral support. Mabuhay ang sambayanang Pilipino! Let our president be an agent of peace, not war. War is costly both in lives, patrimony, and money. Our armed forces is not at war with fellow Filipinos! We we just want justice against the perpetrators and criminals who have no regard for the dignity of human lives. Let justice prevail! Support the “all out justice” initiative! Peace at all cost!

Bring Back The Death Penalty

The series of massacres, killings, and abductions today should make us rethink our position on the death penalty. Lately, we have Given Grace Cebanico, who is a pastor’s daughter, the killing in Cagayan Valley to the Solayna family where the mother died of gunshots to the head while her husband is seriously wounded. I am a profiler yet when I see the cruelty and wantonness of criminals who have no respect for human life, I cry out for justice… Bring back the death penalty for heinous crimes!

Congratulations Chairman Francis Tolentino

May I congratulate the MMDA through the Chairman, Francis Tolentino for establishing a motorcycle lane in Commonwealth, Quezon City. This initiative will surely prevent accidents between motorcycles and other vehicles. This ought to be welcomed as a safety measure. Since Francis Tolentino assumed the chairmanship of MMDA, safety measures have been put in place like the mandatory wearing of helmets for motorcyclists, dismantling of illegal billboards and ad structures, and the anti-smoking campaign. Tolentino truly deserves our support.

UP Budget Cut

I am very disappointed with the government’s attitude towards tertiary education as reflected by the budget allocation recently given to UP. I am a firm believer that education is a vital part of one’s life, especially in molding a person’s character. College determines the career someone will make after graduation. We can only guarantee progress in our country if we produce better Filipinos, and only if we equip them with quality education that is accessible to all.

Anti-Planking Law

Anong kaibahan ng PLANKING sa hunger strike, or burning your body, or making a human chain to attract attention? Rallies are done to show a viewpoint on certain issues especially from injustice, and to demonstrate grievances against the government who seems deaf on the concerns of some people. That’s being done all over the world.

Yet we should realize we have a law to obey and we have rights to be protected…. The right to peaceably assemble is guaranteed by the constitution. The government should be wise enough to see if such protests are only the handiwork of a few or the general concern of a majority. Bottomline is, every right should be protected…

Wow, that’s kind of hard, isn’t it? That’s why we need the Lord to give us the peace and freedom we sorely need!
